RSE Model Motion

Ridding this country of the scourge of Section 28 is one of our proudest achievements as a Party – we now have a chance to go further and make sure all children receive comprehensive and inclusive sex and relationship education.

This campaign needs to be active in every nation and region across the country and one way you can help ensure we have LGBT+ inclusive RSE education is to pass a motion at your next CLP or Council meeting. This will gives clear actions for your local activists and also ensure that local councils are taking the rollout of RSE seriously.

If you are a member of the Labour Party we have written a model motion for you to use as a template and submit to your next CLP (Constituency Labour Party) meeting and a guide for you on how to do that:

How to submit the model motion to your CLP

There are 3 ways you can submit a motion to your CLP:

  • If your CLP has meetings of all members (i.e. without delegates), you can submit it directly to your CLP secretary. You should be receiving emails from them already.
  • If your CLP has a General Committee and meets in wards/branches, you will normally need to submit it to your ward/branch secretary. You should be receiving emails from them already. However, you may be able to get the motion straight to a CLP meeting - so you should send it to your CLP secretary as well.
  • Affiliated unions and socialist societies can always submit motions to CLPs directly – check with your trade union or society.

Submit a motion to your next Council meeting

If you are a local Labour Councillor then we have also written a motion for you to propose at your next Council meeting. Councils are going to be at heart of making sure the rollout of inclusive RSE is a success so this will help ensure that your council has a power policy and mandate to make that a priority.
