Join LGBT+ Labour's Trans Officer Eden Ladley for a workshop on understanding the UK's contemporary trans moral panic, and where we go next. Ever wondered why trans people are being accused of wanting to abolish the word "woman", while so little attention is paid to us overcoming barriers to accessing work, housing and healthcare? Using the anti-trans response to proposed Gender Recognition Act reforms and the Welsh Government's LGBTQ+ Action Plan as case studies, we will explore how an understanding of moral panics shows why this problem has become so intractable for the Labour Party and the LGBT/women's sectors.
We will explore Labour's response so far, and discuss where movements for equality and justice (including LGBT+ Labour) need to go next. This session will consist of a 30-35 min talk, with the remainder being focused on hearing and discussing supporters ideas on where to go next.
