Shadow Home Secretary and Minister for Equality, Yvette Cooper MP, is the first to sign the new LGBT Labour campaign for marriage equality.
Ahead of tomorrow's London Pride celebrations, LGBT Labour has launched its campaign for Equal Marriage with the title 'Marriage equality - its time has come'.
The MP for Pontefract and Castleford became the first signatory following her speech to the TUC's LGBT Comnference this week.
Labour leader, Ed Miliband, who is quoted on the leaflet says:
'The introduction of Civil Partnerships was one of the most significant changes introduced by Labour.
'Those equalities now have overwhelming public support and are being copied by many countries around the world. But I would like us to go further and extend marriage equality for those people who want it. I hope that together we can make progress on this.
'I am delighted to support LGBT Labour and to add my voice to the campaign for greater equality. I’m proud of the progress we made towards LGBT equality over the last decade, but there is still more to do. Labour remains committed to working with the LGBT community to build a fair and more equal society.'
