I was born and brought up in Malvern, leaving the area like many others when I turned 19. I went to university in Manchester and then worked in insurance for a couple of years before realising that I wasn't doing what I had intended to do with my life.
I went back to university to study Environment and Development at the London School of Economics. I starting working in the waste industry in 2001. I've been lucky enough to work in the third sector, with organisations that are about more-than profit. As a result I am passionate about both environmental and social change, but especially passionate about getting on and doing it, not just talking about it.
This means I am also a passionate supporter of the Co-op movement and working on a project to develop the country's first community owned anaerobic digestor in North Herefordshire. I managed to fundraise over £1million to establish a cutting-edge social enterprise when I was in London, so I'm confident we can do something similar here.
I moved from London and back to the area in 2006. I now live just outside Leominster with my partner Rachel, and our dog.
I've been involved on the fringes of the Labour movement since 2005 as an environmental campaigner, and through this work have come to realise that Labour's core values, of equality and fairness, are my core values too.
Since becoming the Parliamentary Candidate for Hereford and South Herefordshire, I'm still working in my day job as an Environmental Consultant, working mainly in waste. Luckily, being self-employed gives me the flexibility to get out and about around the county campaigning and, hopefully still have the time to work enough to pay the mortgage.
