LGBT Labour member, Ian Campbell, becomes Mayor of Retford
Ian Campbell, LGBT Labour's Youth Officer 2009-2010, has been elected as the new Mayor of Retford. As well as being the town's first gay mayor he is also, at 23, one of the youngest mayor's in the country.
Ian is newly elected to Bassetlaw District Council and in 2009, he was named Nottingham's Young Person of the Year for his work tackling homophobic bullying.
Ian told the said: "Everything has come along so quickly. It's astonishing. I think I will be able to balance the roles perfectly well. In fact, being the mayor will only enhance the way I represent my ward. I never thought in a million years that I would be in this position."
