Today on Transgender Day of Remembrance, LGBT Labour calls for an end to discrimination and violence against transgender people.
Last year 357 hate crimes against transgender people were reported in Britain alone – an unacceptable rise of 14% on 2009.
Carol Mapley, LGBT Labour’s Transgender Officer, comments:
“Trans people have achieved notable advances in securing long-awaited rights in recent years, including the Gender Recognition Act under Labour, but the level of violence and prejudice experienced is a blight on the lives of many.
LGBT Labour is committed to campaigning for trans rights, particularly in the prevenetion of crime and the provision of services, which are under threat from this Tory-led government’s public spending cuts.”
