LGBT Labour today applauds the moves by the Labour Government in Wales to tackle bullying in schools, including homophobic bullying. The six-point guide focuses on bullying centred on race, religion, gender, disability and sexuality, updating advice to include tackling bullying through social media and mobile phones. The focus on homophobic bullying results from the concluding observations of a 2008 report by the UN's Committee on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).
Hannah Blythyn, Co-Chair of LGBT Labour said:
"We're pleased that the Labour government in Wales is leading the way in tackling homophobic bullying head on.
Too many children, regardless of sexuality, are the victims of homophobic bullying in our schools. LGBT Labour will be campaigning to ensure this guidance is adopted across the UK, following the lead shown by the Labour Government in Wales."
