Labour Party members in Greater Manchester will very soon be asked to select their candidate to contest the election in 2017 to become Greater Manchester's first-ever elected Mayor. The Greater Manchester Mayor will have a huge responsibility, working with the ten Greater Manchester local authorities on issues such as housing, transport - and health and social care, where the budget has been devolved.
LGBT Labour, will not be supporting candidate in the process but will be helping you to decide on who you want to support. So we have invited the three people hoping to become the Labour candidate for Greater Manchester Mayor, to a special hustings event. This will be your opportunity to ask them questions about LGBT issues in Greater Manchester, and what they would do if elected to the role.
The hustings will take place on:
Saturday 23 July at 2pm
Room 3.01, Manchester Town Hall, Albert Square, Manchester M60 2LA
The three candidates are:
Andy Burnham, MP for Leigh
Ivan Lewis, MP for Bury South
Tony Lloyd, Interim Mayor for Greater Manchester
The candidates (or if they are unable to attend, representatives) will open the hustings by each making a short opening statement. They will then take questions from the audience, so if you have a question you specifically want to ask the candidates, please email this to Chris Wills at firstname.lastname@example.org. The candidates will then make closing statements and the hustings will conclude at around 3.30pm.
