Labour Minister for Public Health, Dawn Primarolo MP, has welcomed today's introduction of the new rights that mean both parents in lesbian couples who use IVF will be legally recognised on their children's birth certificate.
Dawn Primarolo MP said:
"Today women have new fertility rights - an important step forward for lesbian women and couples. We have abolished outdated practises in fertility law, modernised our approach and removed barriers for lesbians wanting children.
"Gordon Brown led Labour MPs to vote for these important lesbian fertility rights - David Cameron, and 92% of the other Tory MPs who voted, opposed lesbian rights...again. This is an important step forward for lesbian and bisexual women - don't let the Tories turn back the clock."
